If you’re using the Internet on a regular basis the chances are that you’ve probably had experiences with malicious software, better known as Malware. Malware is software that can infiltrate your computer and harvest personal and important data.

Malware includes all of the common computing nasties that you’ve hear about: virus’, worms, trojan horses, adware and spyware. The most common way that Malware is spread is over the internet and over email. It’s pretty common these days to get malware due to drive-by installations from infected websites. This means the software can be downloaded without any human intervention what so ever. Another way people get malware is by being tricked into downloading an update for their PC, such as an Active X file.

Malware is now being created at a faster rate than legitimate software tools.

Malware can be used for various criminal purposes. This can range from stealing your information to simply hacking your computer for fun. The reason that malware exists is to direct you to sales pages, track your personal data, or even to steal your passwords and other personal information.

It’s absolutely important, as you can see, to defend your PC against malware. The threat of identity theft is so big that if you’re using the internet for anything more than simple browsing, even if it’s just buying Christmas presents, you must protect yourself against malware and spyware.

Real time blocking software is a good idea as this type of program can prevent malware or spyware from getting on your computer in the first place.

Alternatively, the more commonly used type of malware protection is software that removes malware that is already installed on the Computer. This software scans the Windows registry, operating system files, and installed programs on a computer and makes note of any threats detecting, giving you the choice of deleting the threats.

Real time spyware protection is sometimes the better choice as it can stop malware before it has a chance to get on your PC. The only drawback to protection of this kind is that the background tasks will drain your computer’s resources and slow things down.

Ultimately whatever anti-malware software that you decide to use, it is imperative that you do remain protected from malware in an age where cyber criminal numbers continue to rise.

We’ve determined that Norton 360 blows the competition out of the water in the antivirus and antimalware niche, and we have tested many of the top programs.  In our Norton 360 review we discuss the pros and cons of this software, as well as the reasons that we like it so much.  It runs quietly in the background and does not disrupt your computing. It’s definitely one of the absolute best software tools for defending your computer against malware in terms of being lightweight yet powerful.
